Introduction: Paris Texas or France?

Howdy Y'all, I'm Sarah Trapp!
-I say "howdy" and "y'all" because I'm a proud Texan, I'm from a small town named Paris, Tx, I love to tell people I'm from Paris without saying Texas, because without a doubt every time someone will think Paris, France, and that makes me giggle inside because if you listen to my accent I'm clearly from Texas. If you ever find yourself driving though Paris, you have to make sure you stop and take a photo with our one-of-a-kind Eiffel Tower, it is pretty awesome because it has a huge bright red cowboy hat at the top of it!
-Even though I'm from Texas, I have been a sooner fan my whole life (BOOMER) even as a second grader I named my dog Okie.  I actually have two dogs, one Okie and the other Tex, you see my household at the time was split, my mom and I were Oklahoma fan and my brother and father were Texas fans, so we couldn't just settle with one dog.  Like I said I got my dogs when I was in the second grade and they are still alive today! They are the oldest golden retrievers I have ever seen at almost 15 years old, and they are my heart and soul.

-Tex is on the left and Okie is on the right. Tex has had allergies his whole life so he isn't the prettiest
Golden, but we still love him anyway!

-Okie is more of my dog, as Tex is more of my brothers dog.

-I am living my dream attending the University of Oklahoma, and I will be graduating this May with a degree in Sociology. (WHOO!) I recently just switched from early childhood education to sociology, and as much as I love the education system I love sociology more! I find myself to be an observant person, and sociology is an area of study that relates to everyday life.  I love the fact that whatever daily activities I have, whether it be the going to the movies or school, I can relate sociological concepts that I have learned.  After I graduate I will be working towards getting into a masters program for social work.  Durning grad school I hope to learn how to help and approach children and families in difficult times.  I plan on receiving my LPC (Licensed Professional Councilor) so that I can make a difference in someones life by helping them.
(Personal photo, of me and my roommate receiving our OU class rings! I am on the left and Stevie on the right)

-Some fun facts about myself:
1. I love to watch movies, any kind of movie really it doesn't matter, because there's nothing better than cuddling up in blankets with a big bowl of popcorn!
2. I also love to travel, I have been privileged to have traveled to some pretty cool places in my life, but the coolest place I will travel to, will be this summer when I spend a month in Ireland for study abroad! 3. I love to take photos and edit them! It is probably my favorite hobby to do, and in my future I might even start some sort of small side business for it. I even have a name for it already "Trapped in the Moment", get it because my last name is Trapp. (perfect, right?)
4. My favorite food is most definitely spaghetti, I would even eat it on a first date! My least favorite food is anything that has cream cheese in it, I know, it's unbelievable and crazy, but there is just something about cream cheese and my taste buds that don't get along.
5. I'll end today with my favorite color, which is yellow! If it can be made/bought in yellow that's the one I want! I could easily be spotted walking around campus since my backpack, computer, phone case, and headphones are all yellow! It's just such a bright and fun color, I love it!

  1. Hi! That picture of the Texas-Eiffel-Tower is awesome!

Your dogs are also absolutely adorable. I've always wanted a golden retriever, mostly because they are SO CUTE as puppies (and then later too, of course), but was always afraid of their shedding...

Your 'fun facts' section was very creative haha. I like watching movies too, and the latest one I saw was Star Wars, which I thought was awesome. I plan to go watch Deadpool next month... hopefully it lives up to the hype. I've always wanted to travel to Europe, but it's kind of expensive so the only place I've been to was Italy (which was AWESOME. Gelato everyday). The name for your (future) business is very clever indeed, I literally chuckled a bit when I read it.

    Spaghetti is great!

  2. I love the Eiffel Tower picture. Have you ever though about learning French or learning to speak in a French accent? That's probably way to much work for a joke, but I think it would be really funny.

What's it like being an OU fan in Texas? I know Texas gets a lot of hate in Oklahoma, and Oklahoma gets a lot of hate in Texas.

From other people's blogs, it seems that a lot of people like to travel, which is great. We can all share the experiences we've had in the different countries/places we've visited.

  3. That Eiffel Tower picture is so much fun, Sarah! And your dogs are such cuties. Thank you for sharing those pictures! And going to Ireland: WOW, that sounds wonderful. Maybe you will want to do an Irish Storybook in the Myth-Folklore class. There are two weeks of Celtic readings that come up later in the semester, along with so many wonderful Irish story collections online. If you are curious, you can take a look here: Irish stories online.

And your career plans sound wonderful: you might want to try using a counselor style in your storytelling blog posts. There are crises that the characters are always facing in all the reading you are doing in these classes: a big part of storytelling is all about how characters face a crisis! So there is almost always a good way to imagine a role that a counselor could play, either looking at one of the characters in the story who acts like a counselor, or adding a counselor character to the story from your own imagination! That could be so cool because in the author's note you could explain to us the type of counseling strategies you focus on in the story, so we would all get to learn something from your professional perspective!

  4. Hey,
My name is Ashlie and I am a Junior in Sociology. I was in engineering and currently switched. What have been your favorite classes? Do you have any recommendations on classes to take or teachers? I am really enjoying sociology! I think it great that you have two dog one representing Oklahoma and one for Texas. Congrats on this being your last semester. I also love to travel and hope to study abroad next year! I feel like I have a lot of questions for you. I have some good friends from Ireland and from what they tell me its a beautiful place and it rains a lot. You'll have a great time! I also have taken up photography and took some cool classes in college. It a great way to capture all your travels and memories.

  5. I love that you are from Paris, Texas! One of my best friends from home goes to school there to play baseball! I never knew it had its own Eiffel tower. I also think its great that your family named your dogs after the schools you love. Two of my friends actually have dogs named Boomer, but sadly neither goes to OU. Your dogs are both so cute though!

Your idea for a small side business sounds so fun, and I think it’s great when people get to make a job out of their hobbies. Also the name for it is so cute and creative!

  6. I love your dogs! Golden retrievers are one of my favorite breeds of dogs. You should see my Instagram account- I follow so many different golden retriever accounts, its crazy. Thats amazing they're still alive! I have a black lab, catahoula mix and I love her so much, so I can relate to how you feel! She's only three though so she's still young. I can only hope that she lives as long as your dogs have! I really enjoyed getting to know you through your post! You seem like a very energetic and fun person! Hope you have a great semester!

  8. Hey Sarah! I'm also graduating in May and I could not be more excited, but I've loved my time here at OU as well! And I agree that if I have the choice, I'll choose watching a movie over almost anything else! I'm an economics major, so I know how awesome the social sciences can be! It's so fun to learn things that are so applicable to every day life.

  9. Hey Sarah! I’m from Texas too and I absolutely love it. I plan on living in Dallas or Austin when I graduate. Your dogs look really cute. It looks like one is a golden retriever. They are my favorites I’ve had them as pets for my whole life. Sociology seems like a really interesting field to study. I bet that would be great because like you said you can relate it to almost everything.

  10. Hi Sarah, nice to meet you! I am from Texas as well but though I have heard of Paris, I have never actually met someone from there. I had no idea y'all have an Eiffel Tower, that is hilarious and fantastic. I think it is wonderful that your dogs have gotten so old, it shows they are very loved and well cared for!
Congrats on graduating in May! I am graduating as well, it is so exciting! I hope you get into grad school, it sounds like you have found a path you will love.
Anyway, it was nice to read about you and I look forward to reading your work!

  11. Hi Sarah! I'm also a proud Texan Sooner! I think it's so funny that people often think you're from Paris, France. I've never been to Paris (I'm from Fort Worth), but I'll make sure to stop by the Eiffel Tower if I ever go! I love golden retrievers so much! I have a lab and I am just a big fan of all big dogs. Good luck with your last semester at OU; that is so exciting!

  12. Hey Sarah, nice to meet you! I love taking pictures and editing them too. I have taken a few photo classes and would love to be able to do something on the side with it some day also. My family is from Austin so I have a bit of a split family also with UT and OU. My grandparents still refuse to ever pull for OU in a football game haha.

  13. Hey Sarah! I laughed at the whole “Paris, Texas” thing. If you told me you were from Paris I would automatically think France too! I also think it is so funny that your dogs name are Okie and Tex. I am from a house-divided too (but it is between OU and OSU!) I loved reading your intro! I took Sociology once and loved it! I hope you’re having a great semester!

  14. Haha! I love that you’re from Paris. If I was from Paris, Texas, I would do exactly what you do. I didn’t know there was a “Eiffel Tower” in Paris, Texas. I think it’s interesting that in the US we have so many towns named after major European cities. I drove up to Illinois from Edmond once and I saw America (which obviously isn’t the name of a European city but you get the point) and a lot of Italian city names.

  15. Hey Alex! I have been told I have to stop at Paris, Texas before and now I will definitely have to add it to my list of places to go. Your two dogs are adorable, and Tex just has extra character in his little face! Congratulations on graduating soon and good luck with your graduate school plan! I hope you have a great rest of the semester!

  16. Hey Sarah, it's nice to finally meet you. It's weird to me that I have been in class with some people this entire semester and have never come across their page! Your golden's are adorable! If you have the time, go to my introduction on my blog and you'll see a pic of my roommates golden he got not too long ago! Although, he's basically my dog too since I take care of him most of the time. lol You seem to know exactly what you want to do with your life and that's great! Good luck with the rest of your semester!

  17. Hello Sarah Trapp. My name is Eaton Baptiste. I am in the Indian Epics class. The dynamic with your family is pretty interesting. Having half Texas and half Oklahoma fans must make game days pretty interesting. Congratulations on your soon-to-be graduation. I am sure that it is an exciting and maybe nerve-racking experience. Good Luck with your career in Social Work.
